We took a day trip by train to Scuol,

then a gondola up Motta Naluns mountain (7,080 feet) for lunch.  Pretty, not dramatic, but would be so during late spring/early summer with more snow and the meadows full of wildflowers.  We ate lunch at the top.

We returned down the mountain, and took a local bus to the bottom of Tarasp Castle.  It was a long walk up (330 feet vertical climb over 1/2 - 3/4 mile walking on road and then a path).  Mom was a real trouper.  She's not a big walker but made it all the way up to the castle on her own steam.

Tarasp Castle is privately owned and is for sale if you are interested. They are trying to sell to the Swiss government but apparently the price is a bit steep, even for the government.  We toured castle,

then took a taxi back to train station – just made train by 30 seconds, so we got back to Samedan in time for our dinner reservation at the hotel (but another train comes in an hour anyway).
