Fri, Aug 10: Zermatt and Gornergrat, Switzerland

We explored Zermatt in the morning.

Then took a train to Gornergrat mountain station (10,190 feet) for view of Matterhorn (best views on right hand side of train).  It was a clear day.  We could see twenty-nine of Switzerland's thirty-five highest summits (above 4000 meters/ 13,000 ft).  We had hot chocolate at top.  We ate lunch at Riffelberg, one of the lower stations on the train route.

Paul walked down to the valley from Riffelalp (2,000 vertical feet).

More photos of Gornergrat and walk down ...

For dinner we ate Raclette.  Cheese is melted on plates or bread, scrapped off, and served with vegetables (typically potatoes, onions, and pickles) that you dip into the cheese.

We left laundry at a laundromat in the morning and picked it up the next day.  It was much cheaper than having the hotel do it, and it did not take any sightseeing time away.
