Tue, Aug 7: Samedan and Piz Nair, Switzerland

We left enough laundry for the hotel to wash to get us to Zermatt (too expensive to have the hotel do all the laundry).  We walked around Samedan in the quaint old part of town.  There was a small street market going on.

Then we took a half-day trip by hotel shuttle to St. Moritz, and took the funicular and gondola to Corvatsch.  Then a cable car to Piz Nair (10,080 feet).  It was cloudy when we started up, but cleared.  Nothing but blue sky, mountains, snow, lakes, valleys and wild flowers.  Just gorgeous.  We ate lunch at the top.

Looking down on St. Moritz.  The lake was incredibly blue.

Back in St Moritz, we walked around a little.

We then took the local bus back to Samedan.  We ate dinner at Restaurant Hirschen.  They had excellent food, and helpful and cheerful staff.  They let us in 30 minutes before they were actually to open and served us.  We have a tendency to eat much earlier than most Europeans and it was so nice that they accommodated us early birds.
