Sun, Aug 12: Folklore Festival, Zermatt, Switzerland

We did not plan this, but luckily, we were in Zermatt for their yearly Folklore festival.  And even more luckily, we realized it before we went off to ride another gondola – Mary heard the music from the room, and investigated.  Bands, Alpine horns, cow bells, dancing, lots of traditional costumes, and a parade.

Before the parade we watched some soldiers marching, coming to a stop, and then firing right before us – very loud.  That is what we heard yesterday.

Phyllis having a nice chat with some of the soldiers.

We ate lunch in Zermatt after the parade.

And later there was a concert with various bands and performers at the festival grounds.  And even a cherry pit spitting contest – we did not participate.  All in all, a very good day.
