Sat, Aug 4: Drove to Germany

We took an all day drive to, and tour of, Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace, Germany, both built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria.  Neuschwanstein was the inspiration for Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle.  The tour of Neuschwanstein included 368 stair steps.  We ate lunch just below Neuschwanstein castle.

For best views of the castle, stand on this bridge:

We also saw, but did not tour, Hohenschwangau Castle.

It rained hard while we were at Linderhof.

After the castle tours, we drove through Oberammergau, site of the Passion Play given every ten years as promised by the inhabitants if the plague would spare the city, which it did.
