Fri, Aug 17: Jungfraujoch

We went on an all day trip to Jungfraujoch – took the train from Mürren to the gondola station, gondola down to Lauterbrunnen.  Caught the train for the 45-minute ride up the mountain on the other side of the valley to Kleine Scheidegg.

There were good views of Mürren on the ledge.

More photos from the train ride up ...

We changed trains again at Kleine Scheidegg for the final ascent to the Jungfraujoch (11,782 feet). The train creeped up the steep mountain and disappeared into a 4 mile tunnel, reappearing at the Jungfraubahn, the highest rail station in Europe.

It seemed like you can see the whole of Switzerland from here.

We also visited another ice palace carved into the glacier, with great ice sculptures.  We ate lunch at the top again (see a pattern here?).  Phyllis saw an ice fall/slide and alerted the rest of us, so we saw it also.
Dinner for the rest of the nights was at the Eiger Guesthouse next door, not the hotel.  They seemed to have a better selection and cheaper prices, but did not have as good of a view.
